“Nainsook” describes a soft, almost sheer, white cotton fabric. It comes from the Hindi word “nainsukh,” where “nain” means “eye” and “sukh” means “pleasure.” In the late 18th century, when this type of fabric was originally imported from India, nainsook was often used to make undergarments and infant clothes.
