Why this word?

Like many other musical terms, “partita” comes from Italian. It translates literally as “divided off.” A partita is a suite of music composed for a solo instrument or sometimes a chamber ensemble. Notably, Johann Sebastian Bach composed a set of partitas (or the alternate plural “partite”) for violin and keyboard that are some of the most celebrated Baroque compositions for solo performers.
